The end of summer...(sniff, sniff)

 2011 Summer Re-cap:
The summer went too fast, like always, but we had a blast!
We took an overnight trip to Ocean City, MD to celebrate four years of marital bliss.
To get there, we had to drive on a bridge that went on for almost three miles. It was awesome!
We celebrated the start of our family by eating at a mexican restaurant on the boardwalk.
Spencer decided that he was a big fan of tacos! That's my boy!
We found a really cute spot on the beach at the very end of the boardwalk. It had a rocky pier and we found some massive sea shells! (Gotta love pasty white boys!)
Spencer LOVES sand! His favorite part of the whole beach experience was the sand. He built sand castles, made snow angels in the sand and even ate the sand!
We had a great time with our first experience in the Atlantic Ocean! One thing I noticed was how commercialized the Atlantic Ocean is compared to the Pacific Ocean. It is kind of like being at the fair while you are at the beach. It had rides and funnel cakes and all sorts of crazy shops. It was interesting to say the least...

On the fourth of July we had a "pretend" BBQ (aka we made all the BBQ food in our kitchen instead of on the grill because we aren't allowed to grill in our building...gotta love living in an apartment! ) I put Bret in charge of cooking the chicken, which probably wasn't the best idea... In the middle of dinner he started chewing really slowly and pulled a totally grossed out face and said, "Is this chicken cooked all the way?" It turns out his wasn't (there are perks to choosing the smaller piece of chicken) and he was sick for like a week. It hit him about half way through his day at work the next day and he was sweating bullets on the metro wondering if he would make it home in time or if he was going to be sick all over the unsuspecting fellow next to him. After the BBQ we lit some fireworks with our cute downstairs neighbors: Monica, Michael, and Jewels. Can you believe they had never lit sparklers before?
We LOVE them!!!

This summer we also bit the bullet and got Spencer potty trained. He was super excited about his Buzz undies! He did so well! He has still never had an accident in public (knock on wood) and if we try to go into the bathroom with him, he tells us, "I need some pwivacy!" So funny!

He still needs to get completely naked before he will go to the bathroom, but I don't have to change stinky, poopy diapers anymore, so you won't hear any complaints from me! Way to go, Spencie!!

We played in puddles on rainy days,
spent lots of time with good friends,
and even got to go on some fun super hero adventures!
We also enjoyed some zoo trips and visited museums (Spencer's favorite is the dinosaurs at the Natural History museum). All in all it was a very fun summer! We are looking forward to the fall which brings the most beautiful time of year in Virginia, not to mention the start of the end of the year festivities! Hooray!
